Greece Digital Nomad Tax Guide 2026

Complete tax guide for digital nomads in Greece. 2026 rates, visa requirements, cost of living — no fluff.

Greece rolled out one of the most aggressive digital nomad tax incentives in Europe with a 50% income tax reduction for up to 7 years. If you qualify — and most remote workers with foreign-source income do — you essentially halve your effective tax rate. The standard rates run from 9% to 44%, so a €50,000 freelancer normally sits around 36% before the reduction, dropping to about 18% after. The Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) requires €3,500/month and gives one year, renewable for up to 3. Self-employed contributions to EFKA (social security) are about €240/month on the lowest bracket, with mandatory payments regardless of income. One thing the government doesn't advertise: you need a Greek tax number (AFM) to do anything, and getting one as a non-EU citizen involves appointments at the tax office that can take weeks. Athens has excellent co-working spaces and a growing nomad scene; the islands are beautiful but internet can be spotty in winter. Filing is annual and most expats use an accountant (€200-400/year). Greece's tax authority is also notably aggressive about audits for foreign residents claiming the 50% reduction — make sure you document everything. The 7-year window makes this one of the longest-running incentives in Europe, especially appealing if you're planning a medium-term stay.
