Georgia Digital Nomad Tax Guide 2026
Complete tax guide for digital nomads in Georgia. 2026 rates, visa requirements, cost of living — no fluff.
Georgia has one of the most attractive tax regimes for freelancers anywhere: a flat 1% turnover tax (yes, one percent) under the Small Business Status, capped at 500,000 GEL ($180,000) in annual turnover. If you exceed that, the rate becomes 3%. For entrepreneurs registered as Individual Entrepreneurs, there's also a 20% income tax option with deductible expenses — but at 1%, most people just take the small business route and enjoy the simplicity. There is no social security for self-employed individuals in Georgia, though a small pension contribution may apply. Most nationalities can enter Georgia visa-free for 365 days, which is the most generous tourism policy in the region. Tbilisi is the natural base: a 1BR in a good area runs $400-600/month, co-working spaces are plentiful, and the restaurant scene is excellent. Batumi on the Black Sea is an emerging alternative with lower costs. The Georgian tax authority (Revenue Service) is surprisingly digital-friendly — you can register, file, and pay entirely online. Banking used to be a pain point but has improved significantly since 2023. Internet is fast and reliable in cities, and Georgia's time zone (GMT+4) works well for working with both Europe and Asia. One thing to know: Georgia's flat 1% small business regime is explicitly for Georgian-sourced income. If your clients are outside Georgia, some tax advisors argue it still falls under the territorial taxation principle (Georgia doesn't tax foreign-source income). This grey area means you should get a Georgian accountant to confirm the correct treatment. The biggest practical challenge is language — Georgian script is unique and unrelated to any other alphabet, making even basic interactions difficult without help.
